UEFA appear to have jumped the gun on John Stones’ expected move to Manchester City by listing the Everton defender in Pep Guardiola’s Champions League squad.
Stones, 22, is listed among City’s defenders in their squad list for next week’s European qualifying play-off against Steaua Bucharest on UEFA’s website.
But both City and Everton are yet to confirm his transfer in what is expected to be a £50million move to the Etihad Stadium.

UEFA publish their list based on the selection submitted by clubs and a spokesman from European football’s governing body said: ‘He was in the squad list we received from Manchester City.
‘The deadline was yesterday and the player was in the squad. He has been registered to play. We are double-checking now as we have had a lot of calls about this.’
The young defender protracted switch to City is expected to be concluded this week and the Toffees have offered £18m for Sunderland defender Lamine Kone as they anticipate his exit.
His registration with UEFA would allow the England international to face Steaua in the first leg in Romania on Tuesday night.
