Although the England international says Tottenham would prefer to play at White Hart Lane, Dier is relishing the opportunity to play at Wembley.

Dier told The Sun: ‘We are playing at Wembley and the fans are really going to enjoy that and so will we.

‘Obviously, we’d like to play at White Hart Lane — that’s our home ground.

‘But the club is building a new stadium so the situation is perfectly understandable.

‘To be able to play at Wembley in the Champions League is going to be a fantastic experience.’

Tottenham are back in Europe’s major competition for the first time since the 2010-11 season, when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Real Madrid.

Pochettino will be hopeful that Dier, Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker can help give Spurs that advantage when it comes to playing at Wembley due to their experience at the ground with England.

Tottenham will go in to Wednesday’s match with Monaco high in confidence, following their 4-0 win over Stoke on Saturday.

Pochettino’s side have started the new campaign well and currently sit fourth in the Premier League with eight points.
